How to Get to Playa de Pormenande

Getting to Playa de Pormenande is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it's quite straightforward. If we're coming from central Asturias or from Galicia, the A-8 highway is our best ally. We need to take the exit towards La Caridad/El Franco, which is the capital of the municipality. Once in La Caridad, the signs pointing to Pormenande or the nearby picturesque village of Viavélez will guide us without any problems. The road journey allows us to enjoy the green Asturian landscapes, dotted with small villages and manor houses that hint at the beauty of the coast.

Usually, we'll find a designated parking area near the beach, which greatly facilitates access, especially if we're carrying chairs, umbrellas, or toys for the children. From the parking lot, there's typically a path or some stairs that gently descend to the sand. Although it's not a 'fully accessible' entrance in the strictest sense (there might be a ramp or a step), the path is comfortable and part of the charm of discovering this hidden corner. The beach's proximity to the urban center of El Franco means that, although we feel like we're in a wild place, we have the comfort of services relatively close by.

The Sand and the Water

If we had to highlight two elements that define the essence of Playa de Pormenande, they would undoubtedly be its sand and its water. The sand is fine and has a golden tone that shines under the Asturian sun. It's soft to the touch, perfect for laying out a towel and enjoying a sunny day, and, more importantly for families, ideal for children to build their sandcastles without difficulty. The texture and cleanliness of the sand greatly contribute to the feeling of well-being and comfort we experience when stepping onto this beach.

During the high season, it's common to find Lifeguard services, which provides an extra layer of safety, especially if we're with children. Knowing that there are professionals watching allows us to relax and enjoy with greater peace of mind. Additionally, we have Showers to rinse off the salt and sand before heading home, and clean, accessible Bathrooms/WC, a detail we always appreciate. As mentioned earlier, the nearby Parking greatly facilitates access to the beach, avoiding long walks with all our beach gear.

An element we're always happy to find at a charming beach is a Chiringuito or a nearby establishment where we can have a cool drink, grab a snack, or even enjoy a light meal with sea views.
