How to Get to Playa de Pendueles

For us, the journey to Playa de Pendueles is already part of the adventure. It is not one of those beaches you can drive directly to, which, in our opinion, adds a special charm and helps preserve its tranquil atmosphere. The beach is located in the village of Pendueles, within the municipality of Llanes, in eastern Asturias.

Access by Car

If you are coming by car, the most practical way is to take the A-8 motorway (Autovía del Cantábrico) and take exit 297 towards Pendueles. Once in the village, you will find signs for the beach. There is a designated parking area nearby, usually a few hundred meters from the cove. It is not a very large parking lot, so, especially in the summer months, we recommend arriving early to secure a spot. From the parking area, access to the beach is on foot.

Access on Foot

From the parking area, a well-marked path and some stairs descend to the sand. This route, although short, can be a bit steep in some sections, so it is not suitable for people with very limited mobility or baby strollers. However, the walk is pleasant, flanked by the lush Asturian coastal vegetation, and the views that are revealed as we descend are simply spectacular. We always see it as a small reward before stepping onto the sand.

Public Transport

Access to Playa de Pendueles by public transport is more limited. There are bus services connecting Llanes with nearby villages, including Pendueles, but the frequencies can be sparse and the stop is not always directly at the beach access. For us, the most comfortable and flexible option remains the car, combined with the final walk.

When we talk about Playa de Pendueles, we cannot fail to highlight the peculiarity and charm of its sand and waters. It is a sensory experience that completely immerses us in the essence of the Asturian coast.

A Bed of Sand and Pebbles

The sand at Playa de Pendueles is of a mixed type. A golden, not excessively fine-grained sand predominates, which harmoniously mixes with small pebbles and stones, especially on the sides and in the area where the sea breaks with more force. This type of ground, which we call mixed, gives it a wilder and more natural character, far from the typical beaches of fine, uniform sand. It is ideal for those who enjoy varied textures under their feet and searching for small shells or stones polished by the sea. We recommend wearing suitable footwear if you plan to explore the rocky areas.

Crystal Clear and Calm Waters

The waters of Playa de Pendueles are, for us, one of its greatest attractions. Thanks to the protection provided by the high cliffs surrounding it, the sea is usually very calm, forming almost a natural pool. Its transparency is impressive; on sunny days, we can see the seabed clearly, making it an excellent place for snorkeling or simply enjoying a relaxing swim without worrying about currents. The color of the water, a mix of blues and emerald greens, contrasts beautifully with the golden tone of the sand and the green of the surrounding vegetation, creating a visual spectacle that always leaves us breathless. The water temperature, as is usual in the Cantabrian Sea, is cool but incredibly refreshing on hot summer days.
