How to Get to Playa de Oleiros

Getting to Playa de Oleiros is part of the adventure and, at the same time, a fairly simple experience if we know how. We always recommend planning the route, especially if you're coming from outside Asturias. The beach is located in the council of Cudillero, one of the most beautiful fishing villages in Spain, which already gives us a hint of the beauty that awaits us. If you're traveling by car, which is the most comfortable option for exploring this area of Asturias, the main reference is Cudillero itself. Once there, the beach is just a few kilometers away, east of the town.

From Cudillero, we'll take the local road towards El Pito or Muros de Nalón. You'll see signs for the beach or nearby areas. The final access to Playa de Oleiros is usually via a turnoff that leads to a parking area, generally not very large, but sufficient for the flow of this more intimate cove. It's important to consider that, in high season, the parking lot can fill up, so we recommend arriving early if we want to secure a good spot. Once the car is parked, access to the sand is via a path or some stairs, depending on the exact access point we choose. It's not a beach with complicated access, but it's not completely flat either, which gives it that touch of a sheltered cove. The experience of arriving, with the views of the Cantabrian Sea opening up before us, is already a prelude to the wonder that awaits.

For those who prefer public transport, the most viable option would be to take a bus to Cudillero and, from there, consider a taxi or, for the more adventurous, a walk, although the latter can be a bit long if we're loaded with beach gear. We, without a doubt, opt for the car to have total freedom of movement and to also explore the charming surroundings of this Cudillero beach.

The Sand and the Water

When we talk about Playa de Oleiros, the quality of its sand and the purity of its waters deserve a chapter of their own. It's one of those Asturian beaches that captivate us from the first moment with their delicacy. Here, the sand is predominantly fine and golden, a delight for bare feet. Walking along the shore, we notice that soft, pleasant texture, perfect for spreading out our towel and enjoying the Asturian sun. We don't find large stones or uncomfortable pebbles, which makes it an ideal place for a leisurely stroll, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply relaxing while feeling the grains under your fingers.

The waters of Playa de Oleiros are simply spectacular. They are usually crystal clear and of a blue-green color that invites you for a swim. Being sheltered by the cliffs that flank it, the waves are usually moderate, making it a beach with calm surf, especially on good weather days. The water temperature, as is usual in the Cantabrian Sea, is refreshing, ideal for combating the summer heat and revitalizing the body. We always recommend bringing some diving goggles or basic snorkeling gear, because the clarity of the water often allows you to observe marine life near the rocks.
