How to Get to Playa de Borizo

Getting to Playa de Borizo is relatively straightforward, although as with many Asturian coves, it requires a small dose of orientation and patience, especially during high season. We always advise planning the trip to avoid setbacks and enjoy it to the fullest from the first moment. The beach is located in the municipality of Llanes, very close to the town of Celorio, a reference point that will be very useful to us.

By Car

The most comfortable way to access Playa de Borizo is undoubtedly by car. From the Cantabrian Motorway (A-8), you should take the exit towards Llanes/Posada de Llanes (depending on your direction). Once on the N-634, follow the signs towards Celorio. Upon reaching Celorio, you will see signs guiding you to the beaches in the area, including Borizo. It's important to pay attention, as the final access to the beach is via a local road that ends in a parking area.

The parking is one of the available services, and although it's not excessively large, there is usually space, though in the months of July and August, especially on weekends, it can fill up quickly. Our recommendation is to arrive early in the morning to secure a good spot and avoid the crowds. From the parking lot, there is a short walk that descends to the sand, a path that already begins to immerse us in the beauty of the surroundings.

By Public Transport

While the car is the most practical, it is also possible to get there by public transport. There are bus lines connecting Llanes with Celorio and other coastal towns. Once in Celorio, the final stretch to the beach must be done on foot, which can be a walk of about 15-20 minutes, depending on where the bus drops you off. It's an option for those who prefer not to drive or want to enjoy the scenery during the journey, although it requires a bit more effort and planning.

On Foot or by Bicycle

For nature and exercise lovers, Playa de Borizo is accessible on foot or by bicycle via the Senda Costera (Coastal Path). This impressive path runs along the Asturian coastline and offers spectacular views. If you are staying in Celorio or a nearby town, it's a wonderful way to arrive, enjoying the sea breeze and the opportunity to discover other coves and landscapes along the way. We have done this route on several occasions and are always surprised by the beauty of the surroundings.

When we talk about Playa de Borizo, we cannot fail to highlight two of its most attractive features: its sand and its waters. They are, without a doubt, the elements that make it such a special place and that invite you to spend hours and hours enjoying the Asturian coast.

The Sand: A Fine Golden Carpet

The sand of Playa de Borizo is of exceptional quality. We are dealing with 'fine' sand, with a light golden tone that shines under the sun. It is incredibly soft to the touch, making it perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply spreading out a towel and letting yourself be enveloped by its warmth. This characteristic sets it apart from other pebble or coarser sand beaches we can find in the region, offering an unparalleled comfort experience. The predominant 'tipo_suelo' (ground type) is, as we have already mentioned, 'sand', although at the ends of the cove and on the islet, rocky formations appear that add diversity to the landscape and are interesting to explore.

The Waters: A Refuge of Calm and Clarity

The waters of Playa de Borizo are simply marvelous. Thanks to its shell shape and the natural protection provided by the cliffs and the Castro de Borizo islet, the waves are usually very gentle. This creates a natural pool of 'calm' and 'crystal-clear' waters, with hues ranging from turquoise to emerald, depending on the sunlight. The water transparency is such that, on clear days, we can easily observe the seabed, which invites snorkeling, although it is not a reef beach.

The water temperature, as is usual in the Cantabrian Sea, is cool but very pleasant in the summer months. It's perfect for cooling off and enjoying long swims.
