Located in the vibrant heart of Almerimar, in the municipality of El Ejido, this beach is one of those coastal gems that invites us to disconnect and enjoy the best of the Mediterranean. With its extensive stretch of golden sand and serene waters, it's the perfect setting for an unforgettable vacation, whether as a couple, with friends, or with family.

What captivated us most about Playa de Poniente was its balanced atmosphere: lively enough to feel part of the local life, but tranquil enough to find our own corner of peace. It's the type of beach that offers all the comforts of a modern tourist destination, without losing that natural charm we so value in the beaches of Almería. Here, every day becomes an opportunity to create memories, from refreshing swims to sunset walks along the shore.

How to get to Playa de Poniente (Almerimar)

Getting to Playa de Poniente (Almerimar) is really simple, making it a very accessible destination. If we come by car, the A-7 motorway is the main access route to El Ejido. Once in the municipality, the signs to Almerimar are clear. Within Almerimar, the beach is perfectly signposted and has several parking areas, both free and paid, especially near the marina and the promenade. We always recommend arriving early in the high season to secure a good spot.

Public transport

For those who prefer public transport, there are bus lines connecting Almerimar with El Ejido and other points in the province of Almería. From the El Ejido bus station, you can take a local bus that will drop you off just a few meters from the beach. It's a comfortable and sustainable option that allows us to forget about the car and parking, especially if our accommodation is nearby.

The sand and water

One of the aspects that most impressed us about Playa de Poniente (Almerimar) is the quality of its sand and the clarity of its waters. Here, the sand is predominantly fine and golden, a delight for walking barefoot and for children to play building sandcastles. Along its 1,800-meter length, we find spots where the sand is even softer, inviting us to lay out our towel and enjoy the sun.

The Mediterranean waters in this area are, in general, calm and shallow, making it an extremely safe beach for swimming, especially for families with children. The cleanliness of the water is remarkable, a factor that, along with the sand, has earned Playa de Poniente the prestigious Blue Flag on numerous occasions. When we dive in, the feeling of freshness and purity is unbeatable, and the absence of strong currents allows us to relax completely.

Services and facilities

Playa de Poniente (Almerimar) stands out for its excellent range of services and facilities, designed to ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay. It's a beach that has everything we might need within easy reach, which is a big plus for us.

Best time to visit

Almería enjoys a Mediterranean climate with over 300 sunny days a year, making Playa de Poniente (Almerimar) an attractive destination for much of the year. However, for us, there are times that stand out above others to enjoy it to the fullest.

High season (June to September)

If we're looking for the summer bustle, the lively atmosphere, and the chance to enjoy all water activities and services at full capacity, the months of June, July, and August are ideal. Temperatures are warm, the sun shines brightly, and the water is perfect for swimming. Of course, we should expect more crowds and, perhaps, slightly higher prices for accommodation and services.

Mid-season (April, May, October)

Our preferred time to visit Playa de Poniente is the mid-season. The months of April, May, and October offer fabulous weather, with mild temperatures that invite walking, sunbathing, and enjoying the beach with much more tranquility. The water may be a bit cooler in spring and autumn, but it's still suitable for swimming. Furthermore, prices are more affordable and the feeling of peace is much greater.
