When we think of Playa de los Cocedores, the first thing that comes to mind is its uniqueness. It is a semi-circular cove, protected by imposing rock formations that have been sculpted over the centuries by wind and sea, creating an almost unreal setting. These rocks not only offer astonishing visual beauty but also house curious caves, once used for 'cooking' esparto grass, hence its name. It is a place that perfectly combines the tranquility of its waters with a wild and fascinating natural environment, making it an outstanding choice for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle and connect with the essence of the Mediterranean.

How to Get to Playa de los Cocedores

Getting to Playa de los Cocedores is part of the adventure, and although it is not in the center of an urban area, access is relatively simple, as long as we have our own vehicle. We always recommend planning the route in advance, as it is the best way to ensure a hassle-free trip to this idyllic Almerian corner.

From Pulpí

If we start from the municipality of Pulpí itself, the journey by car will take about 15-20 minutes. We must take the road towards San Juan de los Terreros (AL-7107). Once we reach San Juan de los Terreros, we will follow the signs towards the coast, and from there, the signage to Playa de los Cocedores is quite clear, guiding us towards the border with the Region of Murcia. It is a short and pleasant journey that will allow us to enjoy the semi-desert and coastal landscapes of this part of Almería.

From San Juan de los Terreros

For many visitors, San Juan de los Terreros is the most common starting point, given its proximity. From the center of San Juan de los Terreros, Playa de los Cocedores is just a 5-minute drive away, following the coastal road north towards Águilas (Murcia). We will see a signposted turnoff to the right that will lead us directly to the beach parking lot. It is a very comfortable and quick journey, ideal if we are staying in this lively coastal town.

From Águilas (Murcia)

If we come from neighboring Águilas, in the Region of Murcia, access is equally simple. We must take the RM-333 road heading south, towards San Juan de los Terreros and Almería. The beach is located just before crossing the provincial border. We will see a signposted turnoff to the left that will take us to the parking lot. From the center of Águilas, the trip takes approximately 10-15 minutes, which shows the beach's proximity to both municipalities and the ease of access from both provinces.

Parking

Playa de los Cocedores has a dirt, unpaved parking area right next to the beach. Although in high season it can fill up quickly, it is generally sufficient for the influx of visitors. We always recommend arriving early, especially during July and August, to secure a good spot and avoid crowds. From the parking lot, a short sandy path leads directly to the shore, making access very comfortable for everyone.

The Sand and the Water

If there's something that captivates us about Playa de los Cocedores, it is undoubtedly the quality of its sand and the transparency of its waters. They are, in our opinion, two of the elements that elevate it to the category of a coastal gem and distinguish it among the many beaches of Almería.

The Sand: A Golden and Soft Blanket

The sand of Playa de los Cocedores has a fine texture and a very pleasant golden color. Walking barefoot on it, the sensation is one of extreme softness, almost like velvet. This makes it ideal for a leisurely stroll, for children to play and build sandcastles, or simply to lie back and enjoy the sun without discomfort. We won't find large pebbles or sharp rocks on the shore, which contributes to a very pleasant bathing and relaxation experience. It is clean sand that invites us to lie down and forget the outside world.

The Water: A Mirror of Turquoise Crystal

But if the sand is a delight, the water of this cove is a true spectacle. Playa de los Cocedores is characterized by having incredibly crystal-clear waters, with hues ranging from turquoise blue in areas closer to the shore to a deeper blue in the depths. The transparency is such that we can easily observe the seabed, making it an exceptional place for snorkeling, as we will see later.
