How to Get to Playa de Granatilla

Getting to Playa de Granatilla is part of the adventure and, at the same time, a simple task if we know how. Located in the municipality of Mojácar, in the province of Almería, this cove is south of the main center of Mojácar Playa, heading towards Carboneras and the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park. For us, the most comfortable way to access it is by car, as it allows us to move freely and explore the surroundings.

If we come from Mojácar Playa, we take the AL-5107 road heading south. After passing some of the better-known beaches, like Playa de Macenas, we'll see signs or turn-offs towards more secluded coves. Playa de Granatilla doesn't have a direct, signposted highway access, which contributes to its tranquil atmosphere. Generally, there is a dirt track or a well-maintained forest track that leads to a parking area near the cove. It's advisable to drive carefully on these tracks, especially if our vehicle is not an off-roader, although they are usually passable for most cars.

Parking

In the vicinity of the cove, we will find designated parking areas. Don't expect a massive, organized parking lot like at urban beaches, but rather natural spaces to leave the car. In high season, these spots can fill up, so we always recommend arriving early to secure a good spot and avoid unnecessary circling. From the parking area, there is usually a short and easy path that leads directly to the sand. It's important to respect the signage and not park on the vegetation, thus contributing to the conservation of this beautiful natural environment.

The Sand and Water

The particularity of Playa de Granatilla lies in its composition, which distinguishes it from other beaches in the area. Here, the sand is not the typical fine golden sand found on many Mediterranean beaches, but a fascinating mix that gives it a unique character.
