From our perspective as beach tourism experts, Playa del Albir is undoubtedly one of those jewels of the Costa Blanca that deserves to be discovered and enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Located in the charming municipality of Alfaz del Pi, in the province of Alicante, this beach offers us a different experience from the typical stretches of fine sand that many of us are accustomed to. Here, the pebbles polished by the sea are the protagonists, creating a unique texture under our feet and giving its waters a transparency that invites swimming and snorkeling.

What attracts us most about Playa del Albir is its serene and family-friendly atmosphere. Despite having all the necessary services for a perfect beach day, it manages to maintain an air of tranquility that sets it apart. The views are simply spectacular: on one side, the imposing silhouette of the Sierra Helada Natural Park rises majestically, offering a natural backdrop that changes color with the daylight; on the other, the bay stretches towards Altea and Calpe, gifting us breathtaking panoramas. It's a place where the Mediterranean shows itself in all its splendor, inviting us to disconnect from the hustle and bustle and connect with nature.

How to Get to Playa del Albir

Getting to Playa del Albir is relatively straightforward, making it an accessible destination for all types of travelers. If we come by car, the AP-7 motorway is the main route, taking exit 65 (Benidorm/Altea) and following the signs to Alfaz del Pi or l'Albir. The beach has several parking areas, some free and others paid, especially during the high season. Our recommendation is to arrive early during the summer months to secure a good spot, as the influx can be considerable.

For those who prefer public transport, the most comfortable option is the bus. There are regular lines connecting Alfaz del Pi and l'Albir with other nearby towns like Benidorm and Altea. Furthermore, the Alicante Metropolitan TRAM, a kind of light rail, has a stop in Alfaz del Pi, which facilitates access from the capital and other coastal towns in the province. From the TRAM station, a short local bus ride or even a pleasant walk will leave us right at the beach. We think the good connection is a major plus for this beach in Alfaz del Pi, allowing us to enjoy it without worries.

The Sand and Water

When we talk about Playa del Albir, it's crucial to highlight that this is not your typical fine sand beach. Its main characteristic is the pebble, those small stones rounded and polished by the sea that give it a unique personality. For us, it is precisely this type of ground that contributes to the exceptional clarity of its waters. With no sand in suspension, the sea presents itself with astonishing transparency, inviting us to dive in and explore its seabed. It's a different experience, and although some may prefer the softness of sand, we find a special charm in the sound of the waves on the pebbles and in the cleanliness they provide.

The water at Playa del Albir is generally calm and of a hypnotic turquoise blue color. Its temperature is ideal for swimming during the summer months, and the initial shallow depth makes it safe for the little ones. However, we recommend wearing appropriate water footwear, like aqua shoes, for greater comfort when walking on the pebbles. This particularity of the ground makes it an excellent place for snorkeling, as the underwater visibility is fantastic and allows for easy observation of marine life. We love how this beach offers us a refreshing and crystal-clear alternative to the classic sandy beaches of the beaches of Alicante.

Playa del Albir is an example of how a natural beach can offer a complete service infrastructure without losing its essence. We greatly appreciate that, despite its relaxed atmosphere, we don't have to give up any comfort. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag, a distinction that certifies the excellent quality of its waters, environmental management, safety, and the services it offers, something that gives us great confidence.

• Restrooms/WC: Clean and well-maintained, a crucial point for everyone's comfort.
• Lifeguard Service: During the high season, the beach has a team of lifeguards who watch over our safety, allowing us to enjoy with greater peace of mind.
• Full Accessibility: It has wooden walkways that facilitate access to the shore for people with reduced mobility, as well as amphibious chairs and support staff at specific points, which we think is a great success and an example to follow.
• Sunbed and Umbrella Rental: For those who prefer not to carry their own equipment, rental points are available.
• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Along the promenade, we'll find a good selection of 'chiringuitos' where we can have a cool drink or eat, and restaurants with options for all tastes.
• Parking: As mentioned, there are nearby parking areas, although in summer they can fill up quickly.
• Equipment Rental: It's possible to rent water skates, kayaks, or paddle surf boards to enjoy the sea in another way.
