Introduction
What a joy to talk to you today about Playa de la Albufereta, one of those corners that steals our hearts in the vibrant city of Alicante! For us, this beach is much more than just a stretch of coastline; it's a small urban oasis, a place where time seems to slow down, inviting us to enjoy the sea breeze and the gentle murmur of the waves. Strategically located between the bustle of the city and the serenity of the Mediterranean, Albufereta presents itself as an unbeatable option for those looking to combine the comfort of urban services with the natural beauty of an Alicante beach.
We love Playa de la Albufereta for its welcoming atmosphere and family-friendly character. It's one of those Alicante beaches that allows us to disconnect without going too far. Its golden sand and calm waters are a constant invitation to relax, to build sandcastles with the little ones, or simply to lie under the sun and let the stress melt away. Furthermore, its history is intertwined with that of the city itself, with Roman remains reminding us that this place has been a meeting and enjoyment point since time immemorial. It is, without a doubt, one of our favorite Alicante beaches for a quick getaway or to spend a full day.
How to Get to Playa de la Albufereta
Getting to Playa de la Albufereta is really simple, making it a very accessible option for any visitor to Alicante. We always value ease of access, and in this case, Albufereta more than delivers.
By Car
If you choose to drive, Playa de la Albufereta is very well signposted and is located in the northern area of the city of Alicante, in the direction of El Campello. There are parking areas on the adjacent streets, although during high season it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot. Our recommendation is to arrive early on weekends or in the middle of summer to secure a good place. It's one of the Alicante beaches with good road connections.
By Public Transport
The public transport network in Alicante is excellent and makes accessing Playa de la Albufereta very easy for us.
- Bus: Several urban bus lines connect the center of Alicante with Albufereta. Lines 09 and 21, for example, have stops very close to the beach. It's a comfortable and economical way to get there, and allows us to forget about parking.
- Tram: The TRAM Metropolitano de Alicante is another excellent option. Line L3 (Alicante-El Campello) and L4 (Alicante-Plaza de La Coruña) have stops at 'La Isleta' or 'Albufereta', which are a short walk from the sand. It's a very pleasant experience, with sea views on some stretches, and we think it's one of the best ways to get around the Alicante coast.
The Sand and Water
One of the biggest attractions of Playa de la Albufereta is, without a doubt, the quality of its sand and the tranquility of its waters. When we step onto the Playa de la Albufereta beach, we find fine, golden sand, very pleasant to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot or for children to play freely. It's not sand that sticks excessively, which is always a plus when returning home.
The waters of Albufereta are, in general, very calm and crystal clear. Being in a semi-protected cove, the waves are usually minimal, making it one of the safest Alicante beaches for swimming, especially for the little ones or for those who don't feel comfortable with strong waves. The entrance to the sea is gentle and gradual, without sudden drops, which makes immersion even easier. We have enjoyed many relaxing swims here, feeling the warm water caress our skin. The transparency of the water allows us to see the sandy bottom, and sometimes, a small fish, making it ideal for some basic snorkeling near the side rocks.
