How to Get to Playa de San Francisco

Getting to Playa de San Francisco is quite straightforward, which is a plus for many travelers. We always recommend the car as the most comfortable option for exploring the Costa da Morte and its surroundings, and this beach is no exception. If you are coming from Santiago de Compostela, which is the most common starting point for many visitors to the area, the journey will take you approximately one hour via the AC-550 road, which runs along the coast and offers spectacular views of the estuary and the small fishing villages that dot it. It is a trip that, in itself, is already part of the experience.

By Car

For those of you who choose the car, Playa de San Francisco is very well signposted. Once you arrive in Muros, you just have to follow the signs to the beach. There is a fairly large and free parking lot right next to the sandy area, which is a great advantage, especially in high season. This allows us to park easily and have the car nearby to load and unload everything needed for a day at the beach. The access road is comfortable and in good condition, making arrival easy even for drivers less experienced on secondary roads.

Public Transport

Although public transport in this area of Galicia is not as frequent as in large cities, there are bus lines connecting Muros with Santiago de Compostela and other nearby towns. However, to get directly to Playa de San Francisco from the center of Muros, you will have to walk about 20-30 minutes or take a local taxi, as the beach is located on the outskirts of the urban center. We, honestly, prefer the freedom that the car gives us to move around the entire area and discover coves and corners that are less accessible.
