How to get to Playa de Reira

Getting to Playa de Reira is part of the adventure, and this contributes to its wild and uncrowded character. While it is not the most accessible of beaches, the journey rewards us with spectacular views and the promise of an incomparable destination.

From Camariñas

Our usual route begins in the municipality of Camariñas itself. From there, we take the road towards Arou, a small coastal village. Before reaching Arou, we will find signs, sometimes a bit discreet, towards the beach. The final stretch is usually along a dirt track or forest path, which may have some irregularities, so we recommend driving with caution, especially if our vehicle is not an off-roader. The journey offers us rural and coastal landscapes that prepare us for the wonder that awaits.

Parking

Upon arriving near the beach, we will find an informal parking area. It is a dirt clearing where we can leave the car. It is important to remember that, being a natural and virgin environment, the spaces are not marked and there is no surveillance, so we always advise not leaving valuables in sight. From this parking area, a well-marked path, although somewhat steep in some sections, will lead us directly to the sand. It is a short walk that is worth it, as the views that open before us are simply spectacular.

The sand and the water

Playa de Reira welcomes us with an expanse of fine, golden sand, incredibly clean and soft under our feet. It is the kind of sand that invites us to walk barefoot, to feel the grains between our toes while we gaze at the vast ocean. The beach's length, approximately 550 meters, allows us to enjoy long walks without crowds, even on the busiest days.

The predominant type of ground is sand, which facilitates enjoyment and comfort when lying down or building sandcastles with the little ones (always with caution on this beach). Unlike other rocky beaches of the Costa da Morte, the homogeneity of its sandy bed makes it especially attractive.

As for the water, Playa de Reira is characterized by the strength and ferocity of the Atlantic. Its waters, of an intense and crystalline blue, are fresh and invigorating, typical of A Coruña beaches. The current can be strong and the waves, often imposing, make it a paradise for surf lovers and water sports enthusiasts. However, this same strength demands special respect and caution, especially for less experienced swimmers or families with small children. It is a place to admire the power of the sea, more than for a relaxing swim in calm waters.

Minimalism at its finest

Playa de Reira does not have showers, public toilets, beach bars (chiringuitos), or umbrella and sunbed rentals. We also will not find lifeguards on a regular basis. It is a beach that remains virgin, and that is its greatest virtue. The only thing we could consider a 'service' is the informal parking we mentioned earlier, a dirt space to leave the car before descending to the sand.

Preparation is key

To fully enjoy this natural wonder, it is essential to go well prepared. We always recommend bringing everything you need: water, some food, sunscreen, an umbrella (if we want shade), towels, and, of course, a bag to collect all our waste and thus keep the beach as pristine as we found it. The lack of services invites us to be more responsible and self-sufficient during our visit, contributing to the conservation of this unique space.

The choice of the best time to visit Playa de Reira will largely depend on the type of experience we are looking for, as each season offers a particular charm on this Camariñas beach.
