How to Get to Playa de Lariño

Getting to Playa de Lariño is relatively straightforward, although its charm lies in not being one of those overcrowded beaches with super-populated access. If we come by car, which is the most comfortable and recommended option for exploring the Costa da Morte, the usual route is to take the AC-550, which runs along much of the Galician coast. Once in the municipality of Carnota, we follow the signs to Lariño. The beach is well signposted and has several free parking areas, which makes access easier for bathers.

From cities like Santiago de Compostela, the journey takes about an hour and fifteen minutes; from A Coruña, around an hour and a half. The road will offer us spectacular views of the coast, already preparing us for the spectacle that awaits. As for public transport, options are more limited and usually require transfers, so we highly recommend a car to enjoy the freedom of movement this area deserves.

The Sand and Water

One of the main attractions of Playa de Lariño is, without a doubt, its sand. We would describe it as fine sand with a golden hue that, under the sun, shines with a special intensity. It's perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles with the little ones, or simply spreading out a towel and enjoying the softness under our feet. Their color ranges from turquoise blue on sunny days to more intense tones when the sky is overcast. Although they are generally suitable for swimming, it's important to consider that, being in the open sea, there may be currents or moderate waves, especially on windy days. However, most of the time, they are ideal for a refreshing and safe swim, particularly in the more protected area of the beach.

Although it doesn't have full accessibility for people with reduced mobility along its entire length, there are easier access points and, sometimes, walkways that facilitate movement on the sand.

The choice of the best time to visit Playa de Lariño largely depends on what we're looking for. If our priority is to enjoy swimming and the sun, the summer months (July and August) are undoubtedly the most suitable. During these months, temperatures are more pleasant, the waters are warmer, and all the beach services are operational. However, it's also the busiest time, although the vast expanse of Lariño ensures it never feels completely overcrowded.

For those who prefer tranquility, solitary walks, and photography, spring and autumn are magnificent seasons. The light is spectacular, the colors of the landscape are intense, and the beach shows itself in all its natural, almost virgin splendor. It's the ideal time to feel the force of the Atlantic without the summer bustle. Even in winter, if we're brave and bundle up, a walk along Lariño can be a revitalizing experience, feeling the sea breeze and the power of the waves breaking on the shore.
