How to Get to Playa de la Ribera

Getting to Playa de la Ribera is surprisingly easy, which adds to its appeal. If we come by car, the AP-9 motorway will leave us just a few kilometers from Pontedeume. Taking exit 25 (Pontedeume/Miño), we'll be in the heart of the town in a few minutes. Once in Pontedeume, the signage to the beach is clear and will guide us without problems to the promenade that borders the sandy area.

For parking, we can find several designated areas near the promenade, although during the high season, especially on weekends in July and August, it can be a bit more difficult to find a spot first thing in the morning. We always recommend arriving early to secure a good place. There are also public transport options; several bus lines connect Pontedeume with nearby cities like A Coruña and Ferrol, leaving visitors a short walk from the beach. Accessibility is, without a doubt, one of the great advantages of this beach in Pontedeume.

The Sand and Water

The first thing that catches our attention when stepping onto Playa de la Ribera is its fine, golden sand, a delight for the feet and perfect for laying out a towel. It's clean, soft sand, ideal for the little ones to build sandcastles or simply play safely. Its length of about 550 meters means that, even on busier days, we can always find a spot to enjoy comfortably.

But if the sand is a strong point, the water at Playa de la Ribera is undoubtedly its most distinctive feature. Located in the Ría de Ares, at the mouth of the Eume River, its waters are remarkably calm, with hardly any waves. This makes it a paradise for safe swimming, especially for children and for those who are not comfortable with the big waves of the open Atlantic. The water temperature, typical of the Galician 'rías', is refreshing in summer and very pleasant for a dip. The combination of this fine sand and these calm waters creates an idyllic atmosphere for relaxation and family enjoyment.

It is during this period that the Galician climate gifts us with sunny, warm days, ideal for swimming and outdoor activities. July and August are the busiest months, when the beach is at its peak with all services operational and a lively atmosphere.
