How to Get to Playa de Caveiro

Getting to Playa de Caveiro is relatively easy, and the journey itself offers a first glimpse of the region's beauty. If coming from Santiago de Compostela, the Galician capital, the most common route is to take the AG-56 highway towards Noia, and then continue along the AC-550 regional road that skirts the coast. This route is a true visual pleasure, with spectacular views of the estuary and the small fishing villages dotting the coastline. From A Coruña, the journey is a bit longer, but equally rewarding, passing through Santiago or directly along the coast if we prefer a more scenic trip.

Access and Parking

Once in Porto do Son, Playa de Caveiro is well signposted and is located very close to the urban center. This greatly facilitates access. It has parking areas nearby, which is a major plus, especially during the summer months when finding parking can be a challenge at other Galician beaches. We're not talking about a mega-parking lot, but rather designated spaces that are generally sufficient for the number of visitors this beach receives. From the parking area, access to the sand is comfortable and direct, without major slopes or difficulties, making it suitable for most people.

Among the services we can find, we highlight the presence of showers, something always appreciated to wash off the salt and sand before heading home or continuing with other activities. It also has bathrooms/WCs, a fundamental service for any beach aiming to offer a complete experience. During the peak summer season, the beach has lifeguard service, which provides us with additional peace of mind, especially if visiting with children. Safety is a priority, and knowing there are professionals watching over us is a great relief. Although we won't find a large offer of chiringuitos directly on the sand, the proximity to the center of Porto do Son means we have bars, restaurants, and shops within a short walk, where we can get everything we need or enjoy a good meal or drink.

Determining the 'best time' to visit Playa de Caveiro largely depends on what we're looking for in our experience. Each season has its own charm and offers us a different facet of this beautiful Galician beach.

Summer: Sun and Swimming

If our main goal is to enjoy the sun, swimming, and all water activities, then the summer months (June, July, and August) are, without a doubt, the best option. During this time, temperatures are more pleasant, days are longer, and the water reaches its maximum temperature. This is when the beach is most lively, with the lifeguard service active and the chance to enjoy a more animated atmosphere. However, it is also the time of highest attendance, although Playa de Caveiro rarely feels as crowded as other more well-known beaches.
