How to get to El Playazo de Rodalquilar

Getting to El Playazo de Rodalquilar is relatively straightforward, although it requires a small detour that, believe us, is worth it. If we are coming from the city of Almería, we take the A-7 motorway towards Murcia and then the exit towards San José/Cabo de Gata. From there, we head towards Rodalquilar. Once in the village of Rodalquilar, we follow the signs to 'El Playazo'.

The final access to the beach is via a well-maintained dirt track, which leads directly to a designated parking area. It is important to remember that we are in a Natural Park, so we must respect the parking regulations and not leave our vehicles outside the designated areas. The beauty of the surroundings obliges us to be responsible and to preserve this fragile and valuable ecosystem. The sand and the water

The main characteristic of El Playazo de Rodalquilar is, without a doubt, its fine golden sand, which stretches for about 400 meters. It is soft sand, perfect for walking barefoot or for children to play and build sandcastles. The texture is truly pleasant and contrasts wonderfully with the ochre tone of the volcanic rocks that flank it. Primarily, we will find a parking area close to the beach, which is fundamental for visitor comfort. During the peak summer season, one or two chiringuitos are usually set up right on the beach. These rustic and charming establishments allow us to enjoy refreshing drinks, ice creams, and, in some cases, simple dishes of local cuisine, such as sardine skewers or salads. It is important to consider that these chiringuitos are seasonal and are not always operational outside the months of July and August.

Also, during the months of highest attendance, there is usually a lifeguard service, which adds an extra layer of safety, especially for families. We should not expect to find full showers, umbrella and sunbed rentals, or organized sports areas, as the philosophy of the Natural Park is to minimize human intervention. Therefore, we recommend our visitors come prepared with everything they need for their beach day: water, food, an umbrella, and towels. This is a beach to enjoy nature without great luxuries, and that is precisely what makes it so special.
