How to Get to Playa de Nikolina

Getting to Playa de Nikolina is relatively straightforward, as Baška Voda is well-connected within the Split-Dalmatia region. We always recommend planning the trip in advance to ensure a hassle-free experience.

By Car

If you're traveling by car, the most common way to get there, you should take the coastal road D8, also known as the Jadranska magistrala. This scenic route offers spectacular views of the Adriatic. Baška Voda is located about 50 kilometers southeast of Split and just about 10 kilometers northwest of Makarska. Once in Baška Voda, the beach is well-signposted, and you'll find several paid parking options nearby, although during the high season it can be a challenge to find a free spot. We always advise arriving early to secure a good place.

Public Transport

For those who prefer public transport, there are regular bus lines connecting Split and Makarska with Baška Voda. From Split, the journey takes about an hour. The buses are comfortable and offer a relaxing alternative to enjoy the scenery without worrying about parking. Once at the Baška Voda bus station, the beach is a short walk away, allowing for a pleasant stroll through the town.

By Plane

The nearest international airport is Split Airport (SPU), from where you can rent a car, take a taxi, or a bus to Split and then another bus to Baška Voda. This option is ideal for international travelers who want to discover the Croatian beaches with ease.

The Sand and Water

What distinguishes Playa de Nikolina, and indeed many of the Split-Dalmatia beaches, is its characteristic ground type: pebbles. Here you won't find fine sand, but small, polished white pebbles that, under the sun, shine like pearls. We found that these pebbles have their own advantages: they don't stick to your skin like sand and keep the water incredibly clear, as there are no fine particles to cloud it. It's true they can be a bit uncomfortable for walking barefoot at first, so we always suggest bringing water shoes or beach sandals for greater comfort.

But if the pebbles are the stage, the water is the true star. The waters of Playa de Nikolina are of astonishing transparency, with hues ranging from aquamarine to deep blue. Their clarity is such that it allows you to easily see the seabed, making snorkeling a very rewarding activity. Furthermore, being a protected bay, the waters are usually calm with little current, making them perfect for swimming, especially for the little ones. The water temperature in summer is delightfully warm, inviting long swims and enjoyment of every dip. We were fascinated by the purity and beauty of this stretch of the Adriatic.
