Introduction
If there's one thing that surprises us time and again about Croatia, it's its incomparable natural beauty. However, finding a fine sandy beach is a rarity in a country where pebble and rock coves predominate. That's why, when we talk about Playa de Lovrečina, located on the stunning island of Brač in the Split-Dalmatia region, we know we're dealing with something truly special. This bay, a true oasis of golden sand, has earned its reputation as one of the most beloved and visited beaches in Central Dalmatia.
Playa de Lovrečina is not just a place to sunbathe; it's an experience. Its calm, shallow waters, inviting for a relaxing swim, combine with a lush natural environment, dotted with pine and olive trees that offer natural shade on the hottest days. It's a corner where time seems to stand still, where the sound of the waves and the song of the cicadas are the only soundtrack. Furthermore, its proximity to the ruins of a 5th-century Paleochristian basilica adds a touch of history and mystery to this already charming landscape, making each visit a small cultural adventure.
For us, Playa de Lovrečina represents the quintessence of a Mediterranean beach holiday: sun, sand, crystal-clear sea, and a serene atmosphere that allows us to completely disconnect. It's the kind of place one dreams of returning to, a destination that etches itself in memory and that we recommend without hesitation to all those seeking a different beach experience in Croatia, especially if traveling with children or simply yearning for the softness of sand underfoot.
How to Get to Playa de Lovrečina
Getting to Playa de Lovrečina is part of the adventure, especially if you're coming from the mainland. The most common way to access the island of Brač is by taking a ferry from Split to Supetar, the island's main port city. Connections are frequent during the high season, and the ferry ride is an experience in itself, offering spectacular views of the Adriatic and the surrounding islands.
Once in Supetar, we have several options to reach the beach. Playa de Lovrečina is located about 4 kilometers east of the charming village of Postira, so our intermediate destination will be this picturesque fishing settlement. We can choose:
- Car: This is the most flexible option. From Supetar, follow the main road east towards Postira. Once in Postira, signs will guide you to Lovrečina. There is a parking lot (paid during high season) near the beach, although it can fill up quickly on the busiest days in July and August. We recommend arriving early to secure a good spot.
- Bus: There are bus lines connecting Supetar with Postira. From Postira, the journey to Lovrečina is a bit more complicated on foot due to the distance and lack of sidewalks in some sections, although it's feasible for the more adventurous. Some visitors opt for a taxi from Postira or even a bike ride if they are cycling enthusiasts.
- Water taxi: From Postira, especially in summer, it's possible to find water taxis that take you directly to Lovrečina bay, offering a spectacular arrival from the sea. This option is ideal if you want to avoid traffic and enjoy a private mini-cruise.
- Hiking/Cycling: For nature lovers, there are trails and paths connecting Postira with the bay. It's a beautiful option, especially in spring or autumn, but requires good physical condition and carrying water, as the path can be sunny.
The Sand and Water
The first thing that catches our attention upon arriving at Playa de Lovrečina is, without a doubt, its sand. In a country where most beaches are pebble or rock, finding an expanse of fine, golden sand is a true rarity and a much-appreciated treasure. The sand here is soft to the touch, perfect for walking barefoot, building sandcastles, or simply lying down and feeling its warmth. It's a relief for the feet and a delight for children, who can play and splash without worrying about stones.
But the magic of Lovrečina doesn't end with its sand; its waters are equally captivating. The waters of the bay are a crystal-clear turquoise blue, so transparent that we can easily see the seabed. What makes them exceptional, especially for families, is their shallowness. For many meters, the water barely covers the knees, making it an incredibly safe place for young children to play and for adults to relax without worries. This characteristic also contributes to the water warming up more quickly, resulting in a very pleasant temperature during the summer months.
We always appreciate the feeling of immersing ourselves in these waters, which envelop us with comforting warmth. The calm of the bay, protected from the winds, ensures the sea is almost always calm, creating an idyllic setting for swimming, floating, or simply enjoying the serenity. The combination of fine sand and shallow, crystal-clear waters makes Playa de Lovrečina a paradise for bathing and relaxation, a place where nature has been generous with its beauty.
Services and Facilities
Despite its natural and relatively secluded atmosphere, Playa de Lovrečina is well-equipped with the essential services that ensure a comfortable and pleasant stay for all its visitors. We always value finding amenities in such beautiful beaches, as it allows us to enjoy the day without worry.
