Located on the charming island of Murter, within the Šibenik-Knin county, this beach is one of those jewels that take our breath away from the first moment. We, as beach tourism experts, have traveled countless coastlines, but Slanica always leaves an indelible impression on us. It is a destination that perfectly combines the natural beauty of the Adriatic with a range of services that guarantee a comfortable and pleasant stay for all visitors.

The Playa de Slanica is world-famous for its incredibly shallow waters and its fine, golden sand, characteristics that make it the ideal place for families with young children. Here, the little ones can splash and play in complete safety, while adults relax under the Croatian sun. But it is not only a paradise for families; its vibrant atmosphere, its beach bars, and the possibility of practicing various water sports make it attractive to a very diverse audience. It is, in short, one of the Croatian beaches that we cannot fail to recommend, a true emblem of Adriatic beauty in the Šibenik-Knin region.

How to get to Playa de Slanica

Getting to Playa de Slanica is relatively easy, which adds an extra point to its appeal. The island of Murter, where the beach is located, is connected to the mainland by a drawbridge in the town of Tisno, which facilitates access by car.

By car

From Šibenik, the drive takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. We must take the D8 road (the Adriatic coastal road) north and then turn off towards Tisno. Once across the bridge, we follow the signs to Murter town and, finally, to Slanica beach. It is important to consider that, during the high season, traffic can be heavy and finding parking may require some patience. There are several paid parking areas near the beach, so we recommend arriving early to secure a good spot.

By bus

If we prefer not to drive, there are regular bus lines connecting Šibenik with Murter. Once in Murter, we can opt for a local taxi or, if the accommodation is nearby, even take a pleasant walk to the beach. Schedules are usually adapted to the tourist season, but it is always advisable to check routes and frequencies in advance.

Nearby airports

The nearest international airports are Zadar Airport (ZAD) and Split Airport (SPU). Both offer good connections to major European cities. From Zadar, the drive to Murter takes about an hour, while from Split, the journey takes about an hour and a half. At both airports we can rent a car or take a bus to Šibenik and then transfer to Murter.

The sand and the water

The Playa de Slanica is famous for its sand, a distinctive feature on a Croatian coast often dominated by pebbles and rocks. Here, the sand is fine and soft, of a light golden hue, making it incredibly pleasant for walking barefoot and for children to build sandcastles. It is the kind of beach where one feels comfortable from the first moment, an invitation to lay down a towel and forget the world.

But if the sand is a treasure, the water is the crown jewel. The waters of Slanica are of astonishing clarity, with shades ranging from light turquoise at the shore to deep blue offshore. What surprises us most is its shallowness; we can walk dozens of meters out to sea and the water will barely cover our knees, making it an exceptionally safe place for children and for those who are not comfortable in deep water. Furthermore, this characteristic contributes to the water warming up quickly, always being temperate and very inviting during the summer months. It is a true pleasure to immerse oneself in these crystal clear waters and feel the softness of the sandy bottom under our feet. Conditions are ideal for bathing and enjoying the marine nature, although for more advanced snorkeling we might need to look for rocky areas near the ends of the cove.

The Playa de Slanica is not only beautiful, but also very well equipped to guarantee a comfortable and complete experience for all its visitors. We highly value the presence of services that facilitate the stay, and Slanica excels in this aspect.

• Showers: Essential for washing off salt and sand after a refreshing swim.
• Parking: As mentioned before, there are paid parking areas nearby, which facilitates access if we come by car.
• Beach bars (chiringuitos): Several bars and cafes dot the beach, offering cold drinks, ice cream, and snacks. They are perfect for escaping the sun for a while and enjoying a relaxed atmosphere with sea views.
• Lifeguard service: During the high season, the beach has lifeguard services, which increases safety, especially for families with children.
• Sun umbrellas and sun loungers: We can rent sun umbrellas and comfortable sun loungers to secure our spot and protect ourselves from the sun, thus avoiding carrying our own equipment.
• Restrooms/WC: Clean and accessible sanitary facilities, a basic but fundamental service on any beach.
• Equipment Rental: If we are fans of water sports or simply want to have some fun, we can rent pedal boats, kayaks, or stand-up paddleboards (SUP) to explore the bay from the water.
