From Limón City

If you are in the city of Limón, access to Playa Vizcaya is relatively direct. The beach is located north of the city, towards Moín. We suggest taking the main road leading to the port of Moín. Once you approach the Moín area, there will be signs or turn-offs towards the local beaches. The journey from downtown Limón should take no more than 15 to 25 minutes by car, depending on traffic.

By Private Car

For us, the most comfortable and flexible way to reach Playa Vizcaya is by private car. From San José, the trip to Limón is via Route 32, a scenic highway that takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Once in Limón, follow the signs towards Moín and the local Limón beaches. We recommend using navigation apps like Waze or Google Maps. The last stretch may be on unpaved roads, so a vehicle with good ground clearance may be more comfortable.

Public Transport and Taxis

If you prefer not to drive, public transport is a viable option. From the Limón bus terminal, you can take a local bus heading towards Moín. It is crucial to ask the driver which stop is closest to Playa Vizcaya. Taxis are another convenient alternative from Limón city; we advise agreeing on the price with the taxi driver before starting the trip.

Additional Considerations

The sand is clean and warms comfortably under the tropical sun, inviting us to walk barefoot along its extensive shore. We find that these long stretches of dark sand are perfect for morning or evening strolls. The type of ground is, without a doubt, pure sand, without significant rocks or pebbles.

The Water

The waters of Playa Vizcaya are a true Caribbean delight. With a warm and comforting temperature year-round, they invite a prolonged and relaxing swim. We always appreciate the feeling of immersing ourselves in these waters, which are often a turquoise or emerald color. The water clarity can vary; on calm days, it is quite transparent. However, at times, especially after heavy rains, it can become a bit murkier. Although Playa Vizcaya is not known for its coral reefs, its waters are generally suitable for swimming.
