How to Get to Cala Saona

Getting to Cala Saona is part of the adventure and charm of visiting Formentera. The island, being small in size, allows us to explore its corners easily, and this cove is no exception. Generally, the starting point will be La Savina, the port where all ferries from Ibiza arrive. Once there, we have several options for getting around, each with its own charm and advantages.

Vehicle Rental

The most popular option and, for us, the most comfortable for exploring the island at our own pace, is renting a vehicle.

• Motorcycles and scooters: They are the star means of transport in Formentera. They offer us agility to navigate the narrow roads and ease in finding parking, even in high season. The journey from La Savina to Cala Saona is about 10-15 minutes by scooter, covering about 8 kilometers of charming landscapes.
• Cars: If we are traveling with family or a lot of luggage, a car can be a good alternative. However, we must consider that in the summer months (July and August), vehicle access to the island is regulated to preserve its ecosystem, requiring prior authorization and payment of a fee. Parking at Cala Saona is available, although in high season it can fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving early.
• Bicycles: For nature and exercise lovers, the bicycle is a wonderful way to discover Formentera. The island has an excellent network of green routes connecting its main points of interest. The path to Cala Saona is beautiful, although with some gentle slopes. It's an ideal option to enjoy the landscape and feel the sea breeze while pedaling. From Sant Francesc Xavier, the journey is about 4-5 kilometers.

Public Transport

Formentera also has a public bus service connecting the main towns and some beaches. While it is a more economical option, the frequency may be lower, especially outside the high season, and it may not drop us off directly at the beach, but at a distance requiring a short walk. Still, it is an alternative to consider if we prefer not to rent a vehicle.
