How to Get to Cala Fustam

Getting to Cala Fustam is, in itself, part of the adventure and the reason why this cove retains its virgin charm. The most common way to access Cala Fustam is via the famous Camí de Cavalls, a historic path that goes around the entire island of Menorca.

Access from Binigaus or Sant Tomàs

The most common route starts from the Sant Tomàs area or, more specifically, from Binigaus beach. If you decide to go by car, you can leave it in the Binigaus parking lot (which in high season can fill up quickly) or in the vicinity of Sant Tomàs. From there, the walking trail begins heading west. You will need to walk along Binigaus beach until its end, where the Camí de Cavalls enters a beautiful pine forest. This section already offers spectacular views and immerses you in the Menorcan coastal landscape.

The Camí de Cavalls to Cala Escorxada

Continuing along the Camí de Cavalls, you will pass by the charming Cala Escorxada. This is another virgin paradise well worth a stop, but our final destination is Cala Fustam. From Cala Escorxada, the trail becomes a bit narrower and perhaps a little more demanding, but in a few minutes, after a pleasant walk among pines and Mediterranean scrubland, you will come across the first views of Cala Fustam. The total walking time from Binigaus to Cala Fustam can range from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on your pace and the stops you make to enjoy the landscape. It is essential to wear comfortable and suitable footwear for walking on trails, enough water, sun protection, and something to snack on, as, as we will see, there are no services at the cove.

The Sand and the Water

Once we have arrived at Cala Fustam, the visual reward is instant and striking. The beach presents itself to us as a small semicircle of immaculate sand, a white canvas that contrasts spectacularly with the turquoise blue of its waters. The sand of Cala Fustam is amazingly fine, soft, and of an almost white color that reflects the sunlight, inviting us to take off our shoes and feel it under our feet. As we have mentioned several times, the essence of Cala Fustam lies in its virgin and natural state. This means that, unlike other more urbanized or touristy beaches, you will find practically no services or facilities. And it is precisely this absence that makes it a refuge for those seeking the authentic Menorca, away from comforts and bustle.

At Cala Fustam, there are no: Showers, Parking (nearby), Chiringuitos (beach bars), Lifeguards, Sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, Bathrooms/WC, Restaurants, Equipment rental, Sports area, or Children's area. It is a beach where nature is the only protagonist and provider of everything needed. This lack of infrastructure is intentional and part of the conservation policy for Menorca's virgin beaches, aiming to protect their ecosystem and maintain their original beauty.

Therefore, it is absolutely essential that, if you decide to visit Cala Fustam, you go completely prepared. This includes bringing: plenty of drinking water, some food or snacks, sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), an umbrella if you need shade (though the nearby vegetation may offer some spots), towels, and everything necessary to spend the day.
