How to Get to Cala Fornells

Getting to Cala Fornells is relatively straightforward, although we always recommend having a plan, especially during high season. If we're coming from Palma, the island's capital, the journey by car takes approximately 25-30 minutes, taking the Ma-1 highway towards Andratx and turning off at the Paguera exit. From Paguera, access to Cala Fornells is well signposted and can be reached in a few minutes.

By Car

Undoubtedly, the car is the most comfortable option for getting there and exploring the surroundings. Once at Cala Fornells, we'll find some free parking areas on the adjacent streets, although in summer they can fill up quickly. Our advice is to arrive early in the morning to secure a good spot. The road that winds through the area offers spectacular views, so the journey itself is part of the experience.

By Public Transport

If we prefer public transport, we can take a bus from Palma (lines 102, 104, or 107) to Paguera. From there, Cala Fornells is a short 15-20 minute walk away, allowing us to enjoy a pleasant stroll along the promenade and the charming streets of the area. It's a good option if we don't want to worry about parking.

The Sand and Water

The first thing that catches our attention when stepping onto Cala Fornells is the particularity of its 'sand' and its waters. Here we won't find a vast expanse of fine sand, but rather a combination of small areas of mixed sand —ranging from fine to somewhat coarser— and abundant rocks and pebbles. This gives the cove a more natural and wild character, very different from more urban beaches.

The type of ground is, therefore, mixed, with a predominance of sand on the small beaches and rocks that invite exploring the coastline. But the true star is the water: simply spectacular! Its turquoise and emerald tones are hypnotic, and its clarity is so astonishing that it allows us to see the seabed with total clarity. It's a natural pool, incredibly calm and shallow at its edges, making it ideal for all audiences.

The absence of big waves and the protection of the rock formations make its waters perfect for swimming and, above all, for snorkeling. We've spent hours exploring its seabed, teeming with marine life: small colorful fish, algae swaying gently, and rock formations that create a fascinating underwater landscape. It's an experience we can't help but recommend if we are sea lovers.

• Parking: As we've already mentioned, there are parking options nearby, which is highly valued in such a charming area.
• Chiringuitos and Restaurants: Around the coves, and often integrated with nearby hotels, we'll find cozy chiringuitos and restaurants where we can enjoy a cold drink, an ice cream, or a delicious meal with sea views. It's the perfect excuse to prolong our stay until sunset.
• Lifeguard Service: During the high season, the presence of lifeguards provides us with additional peace of mind, especially if we're with children. Safety is always a priority.
• Sunbeds and Umbrellas: For those who prefer the comfort of not carrying their own umbrellas and towels, on some of the more accessible coves it's possible to rent sunbeds and umbrellas, allowing us to relax to the fullest under the Mallorcan sun.
