How to Get to Cala de Aiguafreda

Getting to Cala de Aiguafreda is part of the adventure and offers us a first impression of the beauty of the surroundings. Located just a few kilometers from the center of Begur, the cove is relatively easy to find, although the winding road gradually immerses us in an increasingly pristine landscape. From Begur, we must take the road that descends towards the coast, following the signs to Aiguafreda or Sa Tuna, as both coves are very close to each other.

By Car

For most of us, the car is the most comfortable option. From Begur, the journey is short, about 5-10 minutes. It is important to consider that, especially during the high season (July and August), parking can be a challenge. Cala de Aiguafreda has a parking lot, but its spaces are limited and fill up quickly. Furthermore, in summer, it is often paid. Our recommendation is to arrive early in the morning to secure a spot or consider alternative transport options if we don't want to worry about parking. If the Aiguafreda parking lot is full, you can sometimes park near Sa Tuna and walk a bit, although this can also be tricky.

By Public Transport

Public transport in this area of the Costa Brava is more limited, especially for direct access to the coves. During the summer months, the Begur Town Council usually provides a shuttle bus service connecting the town center with the main coves, including Aiguafreda. This is an excellent option if we are staying in Begur and want to avoid the car. We advise you to check the updated schedules and frequencies before planning your visit.

On Foot or by Bicycle

For the more adventurous and hiking lovers, getting to Aiguafreda on foot or by bicycle from Begur is a rewarding option. The path is downhill, and although the return is uphill, the panoramic views along the way are spectacular. Furthermore, the cove is connected by the famous Camí de Ronda, which allows us to explore the coast and arrive from other nearby coves like Sa Tuna. It is a magnificent way to discover the natural beauty of the Girona beaches.

When we set foot on Cala de Aiguafreda, the first thing we notice is its particular type of sand and the impressive clarity of its waters. Don't expect a long beach of fine golden sand here; Aiguafreda offers us a different, more authentic and wild experience, typical of many Begur beaches.

The beach of Aiguafreda is characterized by its mixed sand, composed mainly of coarse grains and small pebbles or stones. This mix gives it a very natural and rustic appearance. The type of ground is also mixed, with areas of more compact sand interspersed with rocky areas, especially at the ends of the cove. This makes it advisable to wear water shoes or suitable footwear if we plan to explore the rocks or go into the sea, for greater comfort and safety. But if something leaves us breathless in Aiguafreda, it is the incredible transparency and color of its waters. They are an intense turquoise blue that turns emerald near the shore, inviting us to dive in immediately. The water quality is excellent, making it a perfect place for bathing and, above all, for snorkeling. The underwater visibility is fantastic, allowing us to easily observe the rich marine life that inhabits among its rocks and seagrass. As its name suggests, the water tends to be a bit cooler than at other beaches, which is a blessing on the hottest summer days.
