From our perspective as experienced travelers and lovers of Albanian beaches, we can affirm that Playa de Qeparo, nestled in the heart of the stunning Albanian Riviera, is much more than a simple coastal destination; it is an experience that etches itself into the soul. Located in the municipality of Vlora, this beach offers us a perfect combination of tranquility, natural beauty, and authenticity that we rarely find elsewhere. It is not the busiest or most advertised beach, and that is precisely where much of its charm lies: in its serene atmosphere and the possibility of enjoying the Ionian Sea in its purest state.

When we talk about Playa de Qeparo, we refer to a canvas where the turquoise blue of the water merges with the intense green of the surrounding hills, dotted with ancient olive trees and the rustic charm of the old village of Qeparo peeking from above. It is a place where time seems to stand still, inviting us to relax, swim in its incredibly clear waters, and savor the local cuisine in its simple but welcoming beach bars. How to Get to Playa de Qeparo

Getting to Playa de Qeparo is part of the adventure and offers us spectacular landscapes along the way. The most common and recommended way to access it is by car, as it gives us the freedom to explore the surroundings at our own pace. From Vlora, the journey takes approximately one and a half to two hours, following the picturesque coastal road SH8, known as the 'Llogara National Road'. This route takes us through Llogara National Park, offering impressive panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and the mountains.

• From Vlora: We will take the SH8 heading south. It is a scenic but winding journey, so we recommend driving carefully and enjoying the photo stops.
• From Saranda: If we are coming from the south, from Saranda, the journey is similar in duration, approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, also via the coastal road SH8 heading north. We will pass through Himara before reaching Qeparo.
• From Tirana: From the capital, the trip is longer, about 4 to 5 hours, and generally involves driving to Vlora and then following the coastal route.

The Sand and Water

When stepping onto Playa de Qeparo, we will immediately notice that it is not a typical fine-sand beach. Its ground consists mainly of pebbles and small stones, which gives it a very particular rustic and natural character. This characteristic has its advantages: the water tends to be even more crystalline, as there is no suspended sand to cloud it. We recommend bringing suitable footwear for the water, such as water shoes, as they will make entering and exiting the sea easier and make our experience much more comfortable.

But if the type of ground surprises us, the water will leave us breathless. The waters of Playa de Qeparo are of a vibrant turquoise blue, incredibly clean and transparent, inviting us to dive in immediately. The temperature of the Ionian Sea in this area is generally pleasant during the summer months, perfect for a refreshing swim. The shore usually has a gentle slope in some areas, making it suitable for families, although in others the depth increases more quickly. The clarity of the water is such that we can see the pebbles on the bottom even at several meters deep, offering us an exceptional swimming and snorkeling experience.

Services and Facilities

Despite its tranquil and less crowded atmosphere, Playa de Qeparo has a series of services and facilities that ensure our comfort without detracting from its natural essence. Let's not expect large resorts or luxury infrastructure, but rather services managed locally and with an authentic touch, very much in tune with the spirit of the most authentic Albanian beaches.

• Sunbeds and Umbrellas: We will find several points where we can rent umbrellas and comfortable sunbeds for a reasonable price, ideal for protecting ourselves from the sun and relaxing by the sea.
• Beach Bars and Restaurants: Several beach bars and small restaurants line the beach, offering us cold drinks, ice cream, and, more importantly, delicious local food. Here we can enjoy fresh fish of the day, Mediterranean salads, and other Albanian specialties with sea views.
• Parking: There are parking areas, often informal or managed by local establishments, where we can park our car without major problems. Some may have a symbolic cost.
• Showers and Toilets/WC: Most beach bars and restaurants offer basic showers and toilets for their customers, which is very convenient after a refreshing swim.
• Lifeguards: During the peak summer season (July and August), it is common to find lifeguards monitoring the beach, which gives us greater peace of mind, especially if we are traveling with children.
