How to Get to Playa de Manastir

Getting to Playa de Manastir is part of the adventure and, fortunately, it's quite straightforward. Located south of the city of Vlora, this beach is found along the coastal road that winds south towards Saranda. If you're coming from the center of Vlora, the drive will take approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic and the time of year. The road is well-maintained and offers spectacular views of the Ionian Sea and the surrounding mountains, so the journey itself is a treat for the eyes.

By Car

We highly recommend renting a car if you plan to explore the area freely. This will not only allow you to comfortably reach Playa de Manastir, but also discover other hidden coves and picturesque villages along the Albanian coast. There is ample parking available near the beach, although in high season it can fill up quickly, so we advise arriving early. The flexibility of a car will allow you to stay until sunset without worries and enjoy the evening tranquility on the beach.

Public Transport and Taxis

Although there is no direct bus line that drops you right on the sand of Playa de Manastir, you can take a local bus from Vlora heading south towards Orikum or Llogara and ask the driver to drop you off as close as possible. From there, you'll likely have to walk a few minutes or take a taxi. Taxis are a more comfortable and affordable option, especially if you're traveling in a group. Simply ask the driver to take you to 'Plazhi i Manastirit' and they'll know the way. Make sure to agree on the price before starting the trip to avoid surprises.

The Sand and Water

The first thing that captivated us about Playa de Manastir was the purity of its surroundings. Unlike many Albania beaches that may have fine sand, here the ground is predominantly made of smooth, rounded pebbles. This means the water remains exceptionally clear and transparent, offering amazing visibility for snorkeling enthusiasts. Although the pebbles can be a bit uncomfortable for walking barefoot at first, you'll quickly get used to it, and many visitors opt to use water shoes for greater comfort. We found them very useful!

The waters of Playa de Manastir are a spectacle in themselves. With an intense turquoise blue color that fades to a crystal emerald near the shore, they are incredibly clean and calm, especially in the mornings. The slope for entering the sea is gentle, making it ideal for families with young children. The absence of seaweed and the clarity of the seabed are features that deeply impressed us and distinguish it as one of the best Vlora beaches for swimming.
