Located near the city of Lezhë in northern Albania, this coastal jewel is the epitome of what many travelers seek: a corner of the world where nature still reigns, untouched by the bustle of mass tourism. How to Get to Playa de Rana e Hedhun

Getting to Playa de Rana e Hedhun is part of the adventure and what contributes to its aura of exclusivity. It is not an easily accessible destination, which helps preserve its natural state. The most common way to get there is from the nearby coastal town of Shengjin, which is about 20-30 minutes by car from Lezhë.

From Lezhë or Shengjin by Car

From Lezhë, we will take the road towards Shengjin. Once in Shengjin, the road becomes a bit more complicated. We will have to follow the road that runs along the coast to the north. The final stages of the journey are usually on a dirt track or unpaved road, which requires a suitable vehicle (a 4x4 is ideal, but a normal car with care can manage, especially in summer). The signs are not always clear, so we recommend using GPS or asking locals. The parking is informal; we simply leave the car along the road or in some improvised clearing near the beach.

By Boat

A popular and highly recommended alternative, especially if we want to avoid the dirt track, is to arrive by boat from Shengjin. Many local fishermen or small tourism companies offer boat trips to Playa de Rana e Hedhun. This option is not only comfortable but also gives us the opportunity to enjoy the stunning views of the coast from the sea, adding a magical touch to the experience. It is an excellent way to appreciate the magnitude of the cliffs that protect this beautiful cove.

The Sand and the Water

When we talk about Playa de Rana e Hedhun, the sand and water are, without a doubt, two of its greatest attractions. The beach is characterized by a mix of coarse sand and small pebbles, giving it a very natural and rustic appearance. Let's not expect to find the fine, soft sand of other more touristy beaches, but a more robust surface that, while it may be less comfortable for lying directly on, is perfect for walking and enjoying the surroundings without sand sticking to everything.

What really takes our breath away is the quality of its waters. The Adriatic waters in this area are of astonishing clarity, with shades ranging from bright turquoise to deep blue, depending on the depth and sunlight. The transparency is such that we can easily see the seabed, making it an ideal place for swimming and snorkeling. The water temperature during the summer months is very pleasant, inviting us to spend hours immersed, cooling off from the Albanian sun. The absence of large crowds and the natural protection of the bay contribute to the waters remaining pristine and calm, creating an idyllic environment for bathing.

Due to its wild and less developed character, Playa de Rana e Hedhun offers relatively limited services and facilities, which, for us, is part of its charm. We won't find large tourist infrastructures, but we will find the essentials to enjoy a day at the beach.

Chiringuitos and Food

During the peak summer season, some small chiringuitos or improvised stalls are usually set up, offering refreshing drinks, simple snacks, and sometimes light food like sandwiches or grilled fresh fish. These establishments are usually run by local families and contribute to creating a relaxed and authentic atmosphere. It's important not to expect an extensive menu or fine dining services, but rather a practical option so we don't have to bring everything from home. It's always a good idea to bring some cash, as not all will accept cards.

Umbrellas and Sunbeds

Although there is no large company-managed rental service for umbrellas and sunbeds, it is common for the same chiringuitos or local vendors to offer the possibility of renting an umbrella and a couple of sunbeds for a modest price. This allows us to enjoy shade and comfort without needing to carry our own beach gear. However, since the supply is limited, especially on busier days, we recommend arriving early if we want to secure our spot.

Other Services

As mentioned, the parking is informal and is done along the access road. There are no permanent showers or public toilets, although some chiringuitos may offer basic facilities.
