How to Get to Playa de Pishë Poro

Getting to Playa de Pishë Poro requires a bit of planning, but the reward is well worth the effort. Located in the municipality of Fier, on the western coast of Albania, this beach is in a relatively accessible area, though not directly on a major tourist route. The most comfortable way to get there is by car. If we fly to Albania, we'll most likely land at Tirana International Airport (TIA), from where we can rent a vehicle. The journey from Tirana to Fier takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on traffic, following the SH4 highway.

Once in Fier, the road to Playa de Pishë Poro takes us west, towards the coast. The beach is relatively close to the famous Divjakë-Karavasta National Park, making it an excellent stop if we're exploring the area's rich biodiversity. The roads are generally in good condition, although the last few kilometers to the beach may be more rural and less signposted. We recommend using GPS or map applications to ensure we don't get lost. There are informal parking areas near the beach, often managed by local beach bars, where we can leave our car without major issues. It's important to remember that direct public transport to the beach is limited or non-existent, so a private or rental vehicle is almost essential to fully enjoy the area.

The Sand and Water

The experience at Playa de Pishë Poro is unique, and much of it is due to its natural characteristics. The sand here is of the 'mixed' type, a combination of fine sand and small pebbles or gravel. Don't expect to find large resorts or luxury infrastructure, but rather what's necessary to spend a comfortable day.

• Beach bars (chiringuitos): Along the beach, especially in the more crowded areas, we'll find small beach bars offering refreshing drinks, ice cream, and in some cases, simple meals like salads, sandwiches, or grilled fresh fish. They're perfect for a light lunch or a coffee with sea views.
• Umbrellas and sunbeds: Many of the beach bars or private individuals rent umbrellas and sunbeds for an affordable price, allowing us to enjoy shade and comfort without having to carry our own equipment. This is especially useful on the sunniest days.
• Lifeguards: During the high season, it's common to find lifeguard posts, which adds a layer of safety, especially for families with children. However, given the more tranquil and less crowded nature of the beach, coverage may not be as extensive as in larger resort beaches. It's always prudent to take extra precautions.
