How to get to Playa de Ereaga

Getting to Playa de Ereaga is surprisingly easy, given its excellent connections and strategic location in the municipality of Getxo. We are looking at an urban beach that integrates perfectly into the transport network, which greatly facilitates access for visitors from all over. Whether we come from Bilbao, from other parts of Bizkaia or even from other provinces, the options are varied and comfortable.

By car

If we choose to drive, the A-8 (Autopista del Cantábrico) is our main access route. We must take the exit towards Getxo/Algorta and follow the signs that will lead us directly to the Ereaga area. The beach has parking areas, both free and paid, in its vicinity, especially along the promenade and adjacent streets. It's important to consider that during the summer months and on sunny weekends, parking can be more difficult, so we recommend arriving early or considering other alternatives.

By public transport

Public transport is undoubtedly one of the most efficient and ecological ways to get to Ereaga. Getxo is excellently connected by the Bilbao metro:

• Metro: The nearest station is Areeta (Line 1). From there, the beach is a pleasant 10-15 minute walk away, through the beautiful Las Arenas neighborhood and its characteristic pier. Another option is Algorta station, also on Line 1, from where we can walk down to the beach enjoying the views of the cliff and the marina.
• Bus: Several Bizkaibus lines connect Getxo with Bilbao and other municipalities. The stops are conveniently located near the beach or metro stations, making connections easy. Checking specific schedules and routes is always advisable to plan our trip.

On foot or by bicycle

For those living in Getxo or nearby municipalities, Playa de Ereaga is perfectly accessible on foot or by bicycle. The promenade that borders it is part of an extensive bidegorri (bike lane) that connects different points along the coast, offering us a healthy and scenic way to reach our beach destination. It's an excellent option to enjoy the coastal landscape before diving into the waters of the Cantabrian Sea.

The sand and the water

The sand at Ereaga is predominantly fine and of a beautiful golden hue, giving it a very attractive and welcoming appearance. It's a real pleasure to walk barefoot on it, feeling its soft texture under our feet. This characteristic makes it ideal for:

• Playing with children: The fine sand is perfect for building castles, making figures or simply rolling around without the risk of finding annoying pebbles or rocks.
• Sunbathing: Its uniformity and cleanliness invite you to spread out a towel and enjoy a sunny day, providing a comfortable surface to relax on.
• Walking: Long walks along the shore are a delight, with the sand molding to our steps and the sound of the waves as a soundtrack.

The water: calm and refreshing

The waters of Playa de Ereaga are, in general, calm and suitable for swimming, making it a very safe option, especially for families with young children. The configuration of the bay and its orientation protect it from the strongest currents, creating a fairly peaceful bathing area. This doesn't mean there are no waves; on days with a groundswell, especially in winter, it can offer conditions for water sports, but during the bathing season, they are usually moderate.

The water temperature in the Cantabrian Sea is, as is well known, cooler than in the Mediterranean, but this is precisely what many of us seek: a refreshing swim that revitalizes us. During the summer months, the temperature is pleasant and perfect for relieving the heat. Water quality is regularly monitored, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for bathing, another key factor for its Blue Flag.
